It’s time for the Third Chapter of our 2023 Lookbook!

Each month’s designs will continue forward to carry you through a year of blossoming hope with looks to wear + share!

2023 Design Concept: A New Perspective

Impressionism was an art movement that rebelled against traditional ways and embraced modernity. This signaled a change causing the world to look at everything with a new perspective. Much like the Impressionists, we want to embrace a shifting world in which the woman who is crafting each accessory is as important as the woman who wears it.

With Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies” as our inspiration, we collaborated with our talented artisans to build a trend-forward collection with room for individual expression. Colors include lavender, tranquil blues, and calming greens, all reflections of Monet’s artwork, while also simultaneously trending hues on 2023 runways.

Tying both trend and artisanal style, we sought to create a collection with multiple releases that build upon itself. Providing easy ways for everyone to confidently coordinate products from one chapter to the next and maximize the impact they make for women around the world!

When you shop your favorite pieces in the collection, you are standing with women around the world who are leading their families out of poverty and human trafficking. Who knew that on-trend accessories could be such a powerful force for good in the world?!

2023 ushered in new changes to our annual lookbook!

We are building an ongoing, cohesive lookbook over the full year, with new “Chapters” added on the 2nd of each month.

Each chapter will feature approximately 10 new ethically made, fair trade designs to continue throughout 2023.

This March Chapter features 9 new designs from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, India, Kenya, and Mexico, to help us celebrate artisanal craftsmanship and world culture.

We hope you can feel the hope behind each design in our March chapter, knowing every piece has been crafted by the hands of a woman you’ve helped through your sales.

Yasmin’s Story of Hope

“I want to have a beauty salon and sell clothes and other home designs. These are my goals. Without my job as an Artisan, I would have tried to go the U.S., because it seemed like the only solution.

The classes offered by my Artisan community have been interesting and helped me know I can open my own business someday. Becoming an Artisan has also helped me in my personal life. For example, I know how to make things and sell them. I have learned how to save my money. I can buy my own clothes, make up, and whatever I want. I bought my first telephone! Now I can watch videos about how to do my nails and make up and watch fashion!”

Yasmin recently graduated from the Entrepreneur Training program provided by this workroom. She is now the HR department manager and is in her final year of cosmetology school! Yasmin plans to continue pursuing her dreams of owning a salon and spa when she graduates! We’re cheering you on, Yasmin!

Elida’s Story of Hope

In my community, most people work in agriculture. My life is different because I’ve had the opportunities to study and have a different kind of work. I began studying as an apprentice and grew in my talent to become an Artisan.

As an Artisan, I’ve learned how to live a more ordered life, I’m more positive, creative, and responsible. I can buy my own clothes and take care of my son. I can pay my own bills. My dream is to build a house with my husband, to watch my son grow, and give him a good education. The pandemic has made things harder, but I hope, as our sales grow and we heal, this will be possible.

Mwanamtama’s Story of Hope

I come from a very humble background. When community workers found me in my rural home, they advised my parents to allow them to take me to a rehabilitation center for corrective surgery in both my legs. But the surgeon advised that it wasn’t feasible. Too much time had passed.

After becoming an Artisan, my life has changed! I don’t have to beg in the streets. Without my work – maybe I would be dead by now – from the stress of my uncertain future. Because of my work, I can educate my children, live in a decent home, and socialize with my colleagues. I’d like to build a permanent house in my village and start my own business so that when I retire, my life is still fulfilling!

Rosaura’s Story of Hope

I learned how to make jewelry as a hobby when I was twelve years old. When American outreach teams came to build homes, I would participate in workshops with jewelry designers. I found my passion! I love designing jewelry!

Before I became an Artisan, my life was very different. A few years ago, I had a problem with depression and felt that I had no friends. I was always isolated and did not talk to anyone about it. But today, I’ve overcome my fears. Now, I can be confident and make plans for my life and learn new things. Becoming an Artisan has also helped me to fulfill my dreams of studying, since my family is very poor and I’m one of five children. In my future, I hope to finish my studies, become a professional, and have my own business.

Madhvi’s Story of Hope:

Before I became an Artisan, life was very hard, socially and economically. I was living in a very poor family. It was very hard for my father. That’s why I decided to start working. My friend was doing some beadwork, so she guided me to this work. Then I moved to quality checking and sizing of the products. I like my work!

Now, it’s good to help my father and family. I have personally and professionally grown up. It’s like a good dream to help family. My dreams are big to start my independent work! I’m trying hard to achieve that dream. I’ve purchased a two-wheel vehicle. In the future, I dream of my own home!

Trend Report: March Lookbook Chapter

Why do we follow and create trend reports? Because we know that the more accessories you like, the more women we can help globally.

The women we partner with, who ethically make our accessories, know this, too. We study runways and trends and design pieces alongside our Artisan Partners so that, together, we can create products YOU WANT. They don’t want charity purchases. They want you to LOVE the work of their hands. We hope you love our March Lookbook Chapter as much as we have loved creating it for you! Here are the trends we have incorporated in this assortment:

Beaded Necklaces: Layering necklaces are still in. But instead of layering 3 necklaces of different lengths, looks on the runways feature strands of similar length. Mixing texture is the trend for layer necklaces, and beaded necklaces are an easy way to accomplish this look. As shown on Chanel’s runways, stacking multiple strands of necklaces with various chains and beads creates a focal point for an outfit. The Gold Remi Necklace and Identity Quartz Necklace are the perfect pieces to layer with other necklaces or wear as a single strand!

Natural Home Decor: While there is a myriad of home decor styles, design trends have gathered a lot of inspiration from nature. Natural materials and textures have been and will continue to have a strong presence in home decor. This is why we have introduced two new pieces made of eco-friendly wood. Our Scalloped and Flower Amate Art feature handmade bark paper, an ancient tradition passed down in Mexico to preserve culture and alleviate poverty. The hand-carved mango wood Mandala Dish is made in India. Not only does every purchase create jobs in areas of extreme poverty, but it is a beautiful symbolic reminder of resilience for your home.

Cuffs: Bold Cuffs consistently appeared throughout 2023 runways being worn either on the wrist or higher up on the arm as a statement. From Givenchy to Tory Burch, cuffs are a must-have accessory this season. Our easily adjustable Circa Cuff gives an elegant yet comfortable option that will work with a variety of styles.

Silver Earrings: While gold dominated runways for years, it is finally silver’s time to shine.  Our Identity Hoops are not only on trend but, like the Identity Quartz Necklace, feature the finger print of the woman in Guatemala who made them for you.

Unique Charms: Maximalist style trends throughout runways brought forth the return of unique and quirky charms. Coach’s runways showed that jewelry can be stunning and fun at the same time. Our Aventurine Lock Bracelet makes a subtle statement with a fun lock charm, adding a fun accent to layer with your favorite spring bracelets. It is skillfully made by survivors of human trafficking in the Dominican Republic. Our Reflection Earrings, though not charms themselves, mimic the trendy statement and movement of charms. Every pair is made by women in Kenya who are differently abled and providing for their families through their work!

TIP: When sharing our monthly designs with your customers, use the excerpts from this trend report to position yourself as their “friend in-the-know” for fashion trends who happens to also have what they’re looking for to be IN with the current styles! 😉

When you shop your favorite pieces in this month’s Chapter,  you are standing with women in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, India, Kenya, and Mexico, who are leading their families out of poverty and human trafficking!
