It’s time for the Eleventh Chapter of our 2023 Lookbook!

Each month’s designs will continue forward in 2023 to carry you through a year of blossoming hope with looks to wear, share, and fill your home with hope!

2023 Design Concept: A New Perspective

Impressionism was an art movement that rebelled against traditional ways and embraced modernity. This signaled a change causing the world to look at everything with a new perspective. Much like the Impressionists, we want to embrace a shifting world in which the woman who is crafting each accessory is as important as the woman who wears it.

With Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies” as our inspiration, we collaborated with our talented artisans to build a trend-forward collection with room for individual expression. Colors include lavender, tranquil blues, and calming greens, all reflections of Monet’s artwork, while also simultaneously trending hues on 2023 runways.

Tying both trend and artisanal style, we sought to create a collection with multiple releases that build upon itself. Providing easy ways for everyone to confidently coordinate products from one chapter to the next and maximize the impact they make for women around the world!

When you shop your favorite pieces in the collection, you are standing with women around the world who are leading their families out of poverty and human trafficking. Who knew that on-trend accessories could be such a powerful force for good in the world?!

2023 ushered in new changes to our annual lookbook!

We are building an ongoing, cohesive lookbook over the full year, with new “Chapters” added on the 2nd of each month.

There will not be a Chapter 12 in December, but we have great surprises in store to keep your customers happy!

Each chapter will feature approximately 10 new ethically made, fair trade designs to continue throughout 2023.

The November chapter features 9 new designs from 3 countries, as we continue celebrating artisanal craftsmanship and world culture in East Asia, India, and the U.S.A.

We hope you can feel the hope behind each design in our November chapter, knowing every piece has been crafted by the hands of a woman rising from poverty and trafficking through your sales.

Meet the Artisan: Asha’s Story of Hope

“There are no opportunities in India if you don’t have a good education, and all I have is a skill I learned from my mother. My mother taught me basic weaving and braiding. I shaped up this skill and polished it to become a Team Leader in this workshop where today, I have nine women working with me.

Every day coming to work and having a sense of responsibility and accountability for work gives me pride in what I do. I have also taught my skills to a lot of women who have made a difference in their lives by this work. I dream of giving my daughters a good education. The eldest one wants to be a doctor and the other two want to be teachers. All three girls are bright, so we want to fulfill their dreams academically.”

The Impact of Your Purchase

India is home to one-fourth of the world’s poorest people. Vulnerable women are often exploited by sweatshops. Your purchase provides them with safe jobs, fair wages, healthcare, literacy programs, self-help groups, and more!

Meet the Artisan: Akash and Rabia’s Story of Hope

“Our belief is, as designers, we can only imagine ideas. The true heroes are the Artisans who convert our thoughts into reality. They make it happen. The crux of the matter is they are equal partners in our journey. And that’s how we treat them as well.” – Akash & Rabia

After attending design school together, Akash and Rabia quickly became inseparable, sharing the same values and passion for creating a safe work environment for women, began to design a workshop that preserved and honored both Artisan traditions and Artisans, and got married in December of 2019. The powerful couple determined to counter the sweatshop culture that often takes advantage of Artisans in India, Akash and Rabia took great care to offer protections, benefits, and opportunities that would empower their Artisans to provide their families with a dignified standard of living.

Together they created a clean, well-lit workshop near the Artisans’ homes and families. They offered specialized training and committed to pay each Artisan a living wage – above and beyond their required minimum wage. They offered interest-free home loans and even offered to sponsor a child’s education from the Artisan community every school year. They offered opportunities for Artisans to speak up whenever they had concerns or ideas. Above all, they offered their Artisans dignity, respect, and hope.

Meet the Artisan: Muskan’s Story of Hope

Muskan works alongside five of her cousins in a small family workshop in India, where the older cousins are passing down their family’s Artisan traditions to the next generation.

“Shakeel, Muskan and Kamerule are extremely talented and are really hardworking individuals. Earlier, they lived in a village in a small room together. But now, due to all their hard work and talent, they are progressing and making a better life. Muskan was always inspired by handicraft items. Her husband is immensely supportive and lets her pursue this dream, and that’s something which is really rare in rural areas.” – Artisan Leaders in India

“We want to give our children the opportunity to study, as we didn’t have this aspect while we were growing up”. – Muskan

The Impact of Your Purchase

Artisans are overcoming the trauma and stigma of acid attacks in Cambodia. These women have had acid thrown on them as a form of punishment or revenge. Traditionally, acid attack survivors in Cambodia are considered outcasts and are often victims of cultural discrimination and random violence. As Artisans, these women who were once shamed, abused, neglected, and abandoned are now rising out of poverty to become independent businesswomen.

Meet the Artisan: Ya’s Story of Hope

“One day someone flung a container of acid on my face. It burned my face and ran down my body. The excruciating extensive burns threatened to take my life for months, and since then I’ve had to endure numerous surgeries to attempt to re-make my features and face to be normal again. I now have to live with the scarring of my face and body, and also with the scarring on my heart. I’ve been the subject of mockery, hatred, rejection and curiosity, but rarely the subject of compassion or help.

I’m gradually trying to rebuild my life and to make a future for myself, but the only thing that gives me the courage to do that is that I know that I’m not alone, and that I may be able to do something to help others. I started this business to make goods by hand so that other women in my condition can earn their own living in safety and some measure of self-respect.”
